The Russian federal border-guards service does not yet expect large flows of Afghan refugees unless "cardinal tragic mistakes" are made during the anti-terrorist operation being conducted by the USA in Afghanistan, FBS head Konstantin Totsky told the press on Tuesday. In his words, such a mistake could be, say, "not very successful" strikes, as a result of which the Afghan population may suffer. At the same time, stressed the FBS head, even if this happens, Russian border-guards and their colleagues in Turkmenistan, Kirghizia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will take all measures "to concentrate refugees in border regions". In his words, so far the leaders of the Northern Alliance have posed the question of not accepting refugees, but receiving humanitarian aid - tents, food and medicines - from the international community. On the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border, Totsky noted that "no hostile actions, serious infringements of the law have been registered" in the regions where the Taliban have come up directly to the Tajik-Afghan border.
