Russian Planes Bring 150 Tons Of Humanitarian Aid To Afghanistan

Russian emergencies ministry planes have made six flights, the last one on Thursday, bringing over 150 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. On Friday, humanitarian cargoes will be dispatched by railway, Yury Vorobyov, First Deputy Emergencies Minister, told a news conference Thursday. The Russia-supplied aid allows to outfit refugee camps in full, according to Vorobyov. Afghanistan has received tents enough to accommodate 3000 people, about the same number of blankets and clothes sets, 80 tons of food and 10 tons of medicines. Russia is playing an essential part in an international effort to help the Afghan people, emphasized Vorobyov. A coalition for rendering humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan was set up in early October, recalled the Russian minister. At the moment the humanitarian coalition involves Russia, the USA, Switzerland, and international organizations, among which are the UN High Commissioner's Office for Refugees and the World Food Programme.
