Dead Sub's Compartment 1 Chock-full Of Torpedos, Warns Vice-premier

There are many torpedos which may blast in Compartment 1 of the nuclear submarine Kursk, wrecked in the Barents Sea, August 2000, and being lifted, warns Ilya Klebanov, federal Deputy Prime Minister. He is now close to the wreck site, on board the Pyotr Veliky nuclear missile cruiser, together with Vice-Admiral Mikhail Motsak, in command of the lifting expedition. Compartment 1 has been disintegrated from the submarine, and will be lifted next year, with the utmost attention to divers' safety. A final decision for Compartment 1 lift will be made after an ad hoc team reports the situation, November. To all appearances, only such parts of the compartment will be lifted which may throw light on what caused the wreck, says Ilya Klebanov. Sea bottom round the dead vessel has been mapped in detail for today.
