Moscow Takes Special Security Measures On The Eve Of World Economic Forum

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) is taking special measures to ensure security to the visiting session of the World Economic Forum called Meeting in Russia 2001, which starts in Moscow on Monday, October 29th. On Friday, the FSB Centre for Public Relations said that taking into account mass disturbances, initiated by the so-called globalisation protesters during the G-8 Summit in Genoa, Italy, in July 2001, and having studied the experience of the Italian colleagues, the FSB in cooperation with other Russian agencies is thoroughly preparing for the visiting session of the WEF. In particular, it is examining files of the individuals who, according to law enforcement data, might be involved in terrorist activities, the FSB centre said. Apart from that, the FSB special divisions conduct thorough checks of members of various extremist organisations to prevent possible unrest in the Russian capital. It is assumed that such people may attempt to organise unlawful actions during the WEF session in Moscow. In July in Genoa during the clashes between protesters and the police, over 220 individuals were injured and about 50 arrested.
