Third Cruise Missile Retrieved From Kursk

A third cruise missile out of a total of 22 has been retrieved from the Kursk nuclear submarine, according to Vladimir Navrotsky, spokesman for the Northern Fleet. According to him, the second missile silo on the Kursk's port containing two Granit cruise missiles - the submarine's main weapon - was opened on Monday. Two other missiles had been unloaded from the Kursk's port silos before that. The missile containers with closing caps, and the missiles themselves were not damaged in last year's emergency. Therefore, the unloading is being performed in line with standard procedures, the Northern Fleet Headquarters said. Special cranes are employed during the unloading, they retrieve missiles from silos and put them into transportation containers to carry them to a storage base.
