French Traveller Continues Expedition Across Russia

French traveller Gille Elkem begins the fourth stage of his expedition "Artic-2000", the aim of which is to cross the Euro-Asiatic continent along it's northern shores without the assistance of transport "vehicles". The traveller began his journey last year from the Northcap cape in Norway and should end it at the cape of Dezhnev on the north east extremity of Russia. A large part of the route runs for more than a distance of 10,000 kilometres across difficult and sparsely inhabited regions of the Russian polar. In the summer of this year Elkem completed the third stage of his trip to the mouth of the Siberian river Ob. On the fourth stage the courageous Frenchman will pass through the village of Nida in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area up to the Yakut village of Ust-Olenek. As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told at the Russian "Adventure" Club, which unites such lovers of extreme sports and, who themselves organised this expedition on Russian territory. Elkem is carrying out his Artic project single-handed. The only means of transport that he will use is deer or dog teams and kayaks.
