More Than 2 Mln. Crimes Revealed By Prosecutor General's Office Over Past Nine Months

Approximately 2,270,000 crimes have been committed over the past nine months, Yuri Bikyukov, the First Deputy Prosecutor General, stated on Wednesday during a speech in the State Duma (the lower chamber of the Russian parliament.) The speech was included in the agenda of the so-called "governmental hour." According to him, the number of grave crimes has increased recently, which makes up some 60% of all registered crimes. The number of murders has increased by 11%. According to Prosecutor General's office data, there were 28,000 abuses of office and 7,000 bribery cases last year. In addition, the prosecutor revealed 68,000 incidents where it was law-enforcement officers who attempted to conceal crimes. The spokesman for the Prosecutor General's office added that approximately 20 bln. dollars were annually transferred abroad. He also stated that 60 enterprises of various types of ownership were controlled by criminal groups. According to Yuri Biryukov, the Office revealed 5,840 illegal acts were committed by constituent members of the Russian Federation, the overwhelming majority of which are now adhering to Federal legislation.
