Atoms can kill cancer cells

A smart A-bomb, consisting of one radioactive atom is capable of searching for the cells, deteriorated with cancer and destroy the cancer cells. The researchers hope that they will be able to perform a test of this kind on a human being the next year. Dr. David Schneinberg of Memorial Sloan-Klettering Cancer Center in New York said, the mini A-bomb was tested on mice and as it was found out, it could selectively kill the cancer cells, which considerably prolonged the life of the cancer infected animals. The only thing the scientists are not sure of yet is whether the healthy cells suffer at the moment of explosion and how the radioactive atoms actinium-225 affects a living being.
