Almost 3 Million Crimes Registered In Russia In 2001

2,968,255 crimes were registered in Russia in 2001 and 2,068,320 of them were successfully solved, the press center of the Interior Ministry reported to RBC. The press center noted that 1,769,565 of all crimes were grave and extremely grave, including 33,583 murders and murderous attempts. The source reported that the number of thefts dropped last year as compared to 2000 as well as the number of registered cases of fraud and blackmail. One third of all crimes in Russia last year were committed by people who were sentenced before, 9 per cent of crimes were committed by under-aged people and group crimes made up 18.2 per cent. More than 55 per cent of criminals were unemployed.
