Revengeful hippopotamus in Malawi

A loving couple of hippopotami lived in the lake of Chilwa, in Malawi. Once the couple discovered corn fields of local farmers and liked the corn. As a result, a half of the field was eaten up. The hippopotami liked the corn so much and haunted the field. But once hunters came to the field to catch the trespassers. According to the local legislation, beasts that destroy the fields are to be shot off. That is why one of the hippopotami was shot, and the other escaped.

The farmers were happy then because they hoped the corn that remained would be enough for them. But the happiness was rather early: in several days the hippopotamus that escaped, came back to the field to revenge upon the death of his “girl-friend”.

The local chieftain raised the alarm: if the hippopotamus is not shot off, the people will starve. The avenger has already destroyed corn sprouts on several hectares, but it seems to be the very beginning of his revenge.
