Number of unemployed in Russia dropped in 2001

In 2001, the number of unemployed in Russia dropped from 7.1 million to 6.2 million, the information policy department of the Russian Labour Ministry informed RIA Novosti Friday.

The ministry noted that the intensive work of the State Employment Service last year made it possible to find jobs for 3.74 million, an increase of 17.6 percent year on year. In 2001, 457,000 people had undergone training or re-training, which is 11.6 percent more compared with the 2000 indicators.

As many as 682,000 people took part in public works last year, an increase of 9.9 percent year on year.
