Japanese authorities have handed over Viktor Kitaigorodsky, a Russian diver from Vladivostok, to Russian frontier-guards. He found himself on the North Japanese island of Hokkaido on Sunday as a result of an accident on sea. According to the Pacific Administration of the Federal Security Service, the diver arrived at Yuzhno-Kurilsk settlement to confirm his identity. Kitaigorodsky lost his vessel during urchin hunting on Saturday morning and successfully reached the Japanese coast after 17-hour-long swimming in cold water According to him, the current carried him far away from his vessel, and he could do nothing but swim towards the Japanese coast. He survived in the cold water thanks only to his warm diving gear.
