Supreme Court Of Russia To Reconsider Case Of South Korean Spy On January 9

The judicial collegium for criminal cases of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation plans to consider the case of Valentin Moiseyev, accused of espionage in favour of South Korea, on January 9. As was reported by the court on Friday, it will consider the appeals for review from Moiseyev's lawyers concerning the decision of the Moscow City Court which sentenced the former diplomat to four and a half years of imprisonment. The Supreme Court will consider Moiseyev's case for the second time. In December 1999, the diplomat was sentenced by the Moscow City Court to twelve years in the top-security prison. In July 2000, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation disaffirmed the sentence and sent the case for reconsideration. On August 14 last year, the new composition of the Moscow City Court passed a milder sentence.
