In 2002 Russia Will Pick Eight-ten Technologies As Priorities For It

To pick, together with the Academy of Sciences, "eight-ten critical technologies as priorities for preservation by Russia of its presence in the rapidly developing world" will be a major direction of the activity of the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies next year, Vice-Chairman of the government and head of this Ministry Ilya Klebanov said. Commenting on the plans of his department, Klebanov believes, in particular, that key attention should be paid to improvement of these technologies and to concentration of efforts to develop them, to building "vertical systems from fundamental research to applied research and further to their introduction in industry." In the Vice-Premier's opinion, the picking of key technologies and the clear and coherent designation of Russia's priorities in the world will predetermine changes in the system of Russian education as well.
