Soap operas might lead to a very bad habit, which is called hard drinking. This was said by specialists of the center for alcoholism research in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico.
Oktavio Rivas, the director of the scientific center, said that the center studied most popular soap operas on Mexico’s two major television channels. Those soap operas were launched in September of 1998. As it turned out, 80% of those TV series contained the scenes, in which actors or actresses drank alcohol beverages. Oktavio Rivas believes that Mexican soap operas dispose people to drinking alcohol: “There are too many scenes and dialogues in those soap operas that make people have a drink or two,” said he. Oktavio Rivas said that the research of the Guadalajara institute touched upon the analysis of festive scenes, in which soap opera characters celebrated an event or a holiday. Mexican specialists took account of the circumstances and the atmosphere that disposed TV viewers to alcohol drinking. They came to conclusion that 75% of soap operas implied something like an invitation to have a drink.
