5th International Sumo Tourament in Moscow

Russian fighters are being tipped as the favourites at the fifth Moscow International Sumo Tournament that will be held on February 15th.

Honorary President of the Russian Federation of Judo and Sumo Gennady Kaletkin announced at a Monday press conference that the main competitors for the Russian sportsmen at the traditional tournament would be from Germany and Japan.

The fighters, who will be vying for ten sets of awards, will take to the mats all in one day, with 140 sportsmen and sportswomen from 10 countries are expected to take part.

In spite of the fact that the Moscow tournament is an amateur event, the organisers have pointed out that it will count towards the competitors' rankings. Accordingly, the tournament will serve as the latest confirmation of Russia's readiness to host the World Sumo Championship on November 22nd-23rd.
