Russian Figure Skaters Win Gold in Sweden

Russian ice-dancers Irina Lobacheva and Ilya Averbukh won gold during the European figure-skating championship in Malmo, Sweden. Their free dance received even two top marks (6.0 points).

Bulgaria's Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviysky won silver, with Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov of Russia placing third.

The European championship will end today with the men's single-skating event. Russian figure skater Yevgeny Plyushchenko is leading the way in the short-dance event. Meanwhile Plyushchenko's main rival Alexei Yagudin (Russia) is not performing in Sweden this time. Plyushchenko is best known for his free dances, i.e. the concluding event. Therefore one can safely say that Plyushchenko is going to win the championship. Russian figure skaters, who are obviously leading the way in Sweden this year, have now won four gold medals. Meanwhile experts don't doubt Plyushchenko's forthcoming victory.
