Japanese Stores Offer Christmas Cakes for Dogs

This year Japanese supermarkets have joined the Christmas rush with the top priority intention to win as many four-footed clients as possible. Japan’s leading supermarkets don’t let pet owners to come to their senses and seduce them with numerous presents especially for their pets. These may be even real Christmas cakes.

Fukubukuro is a traditional characteristic feature of the Christmas sales in Japan. Fukubukuro, a “bag of happiness”, is a hermetically sealed bag with some contents of which clients cannot even guess. Today majority of trading centers provide heaps of “happiness” for cats and dogs.

For instance, Russia’s news agency ITAR-TASS informs, Japan’s leading supermarket network, Takashimaya, offers three “large-size bags of happiness” for dogs at the cost of 30 thousand yen (which is approximately 250 dollars). Bags of a smaller size cost 1.5 times cheaper. Clients say that almost always such bags contain different delicacies for pets, floor-mats for sleeping, useful instruments for care of pet’s hair, etc.

The trading network Mitsukoshi also decided to make a sweet present for domestic pets: counters of the stores are full of tasty cakes for dogs. Instead of a chocolate icing, the inscription “Merry Christmas” is made in a Ceratonia siliqua (carob) paste; yogurt powder is used instead of cream.

A cake of about 30 centimeters in diameter is flavored with honey, peanuts and is completely sugar free. Wheat flour and vegetable oil were used for baking the cake. What is special about the cake, it can be kept in the fridge within a week; it costs 3 thousand yen (about 25 dollars).
