International exhibition "St. Petersburg Jeweller"

An international exhibition/competition called St. Petersburg Jeweller - 2002 has opened in St. Petersburg's Manezh Central Exhibition Hall. The event is dedicated to the upcoming 300th anniversary of the city on the Neva.

The exhibition attracted about 400 jewellers from 50 Russian cities as well as from near and far abroad /Germany, Finland, Denmark and Armenia/. The works featured were made by venerable jewellers as well as by people who are just learning the jeweller's art.

All the items that are found at the exhibition, jewellery, interior decorations, souvenirs, etc. are not just items made in the best traditions of the classic jeweller's art. Many of them were made with the help of new technologies or of materials rarely used to make jewellery.

Participants in the event will run in seven nominations, one of which, Dedication to the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg, will feature items made specially for the city's jubilee.

The jury will announce the winners on the final day of this unique competition. The best jeweller of the year will get the Grand Prix, the so-called Golden Olympus - the figure of a lion made of gilded silver and decorated with rubies. There will also be four special prizes, given to those of the participants whom his colleagues will choose as the best jeweller.
