Maurice Bejart troupe to perform in Moscow

The legendary troupe of outstanding choreographer Maurice Bejart is to perform at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow on December 7-8.

Maurice Bejart is well known all over the world for his innovation in ballet, and his unconventional approach to the ballet changed the habitual perception of choreographic art in the XX century.

During his art career Bejart has created over 200 ballets. In 1961 in Paris he established a troupe "Ballet of the XX Century" that existed until 1987. This year, Bejart set up a new troupe in Lausanne, and has come to Moscow with it now.

Bejart was invited to many theaters of the world, but he has particular affection for Russia: he worked for quite a while together with brilliant ballerina of our days Maya Plisetskaya, for who he staged several ballets, including "Isadora" and "Leda and the Swan". Towards Plisetskaya's 75th birthday Maurice Bejart presented her with another piece - a miniature called "Ave Maya" performed to the music by Bach and Gounot.

Maurice Bejart first visited Russia in 1987; now he has come on a fifth visit. The Lausanne troupe of Bejart is to present to Muscovites a new program that is supposed to include his stagings to the music by Stravinsky "A Violin Concerto" and "The Firebird", as well as the ballet "Brel and Barbara" devoted to the two great French chansonniers. The program will also include one of the world-famous masterpieces of Bejart - "Bolero" by Ravel.
