Extreme Bed Race Held in Ukraine

Last Saturday, an extreme race was held in Gagarin Park in the Ukrainian city of Simferopol. That was a bed race organized by the Republican committee for the affairs of family and youth. Eight teams took part in the race; majority of the participants were students. According to the conditions of the race, the teams were to make two laps round one of the lakes of Gagarin Park. The total distance of the route was 680 meters.

A team called Natural Selection won the race when it covered the distance in 3 minutes 20 seconds. The team finished first even despite the fact that the bed on which the team performed the race lost its wheel in the final lap and the team had to cover the rest of the distance on a three-wheeled bed.

The leader of the team said that it would be possible even to make a plane out of a bed if they had sponsors. Members of the winning team say that they go in for extreme sports: motor sports, mountain biking, and roller blades.

The team called Best Market-1 came in second with the result of 3 minutes, 33 seconds, and Star Telecom was the third after covering the distance in 3 minutes 43 seconds. The model of the bed in which the team Avtodel participated in the race was admittedly declared the best model.

As was provided by the terms of the race, the winner received a certificate for 1.500 Ukrainian hryvnas. In addition, an Internet provider presented 150 hours of free Internet access to the winner.

One of the race organizers, Andrey Yefremov, said that although the race was held in the center of the city, the event was a success: the route turned out to be very good and convenient. So, it is not ruled out that more races of this kind will be held in the park regularly.
