Russian team got an advantage in the Davis Cup finals against the French team

Russian Marat Safin won the first match in the Davis cup finals and scored the first point for the Russian team in its match against the French team.

According to the report of the RIA Novosti correspondent, in the first Friday match Safin confidently won over 19 year-old French player Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The 2 hours 58 minutes long match ended with the score: 6:4, 3:6, 6:1, 6:4 in favor of Safin.

It is worth noting that during the whole match the Russian player served 18 aces while his opponent served only 3. At the same time Safin made more unforced errors than Paul-Henri Mathieu (44 Safin's errors against 37 made by the French player). Plus to that Safin made 4 double faults while Mathieu made only 3.

In a few minutes in Paris the second match of the first tournament day will be played at the clay court of the "Bersi" Palace of sports between Sebastien Grosjean and Yevgeny Kafelnikov.
