Americans Do Not Know, Where Iraq Is

Pursuant to the results of the research, which was conducted by the American National Geographic Society, only thirteen percent of young Americans can find Iraq on a map of the world.

The results of the research look rather depressing, taking into consideration the fact that CNN’s every news program has been mentioning Iraq for several months already. The share of young Americans between 18-24 years of age, who do not know, where Afghanistan is located, is a bit higher – 17%.

The research was conducted among young people from Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, Mexico, the USA, France, Sweden, and Japan. Three thousand two hundred and fifty people in total. As a result, the American citizens found themselves on the next to last position. The last place was taken by the Mexicans. The Swedish are the winners – they know geography very well. The second place is taken by Germans and Italians.

A spokesman for the company RoperASW, which conducted the research for the National Geographic Society said that they had to be happy about the fact that 90% of American young people know, where their own country on the map is. What about the ten percent that remains?
