Scientific conference "Crimea in Russian cultural environment" opens in Simferopol

An international scientific conference opened in Simferopol (the capital city of Ukraine's autonomous Republic of Crimea) on Saturday to mark the great Russian philologist Vladimir Dahl's 201-st birthday anniversary. The conference is organized by the Moscow-Crimea Interregional Foundation, the Russian Cultural Centre and the State University of Tver.

Nearly 50 leading scholars from the Crimea, Ukraine and Russia plus Crimea's Russian language teachers and humanities students from local universities are taking part in the 2-nd International Dahl Reading Conference titled "Crimea in Russian Cultural Environment".

Participants of the Conference will present the results of their latest research on Dahl's life and work, discuss various aspects of his famous Dictionary of the Russian Language in the context of development of ethnic cultures and analyze the contemporary status of the Russian language as well as the current condition of the Russian provincial life. The program of the Conference also includes such features as the "I Think Russian" exhibition of Dahl's literary heritage, artist Vladimir Litvinov's exhibition "The Russian Spirit", the Crimean Puppet Theatre's performance based on Russian folk tales and a concert of the Russian folk music. The organizers have granted free admission for the public to all these events held on the premises of the Russian Cultural Centre in Simferopol.
