Belgrade's Folk Theater to present its version of Chekhov's "The Seagull" in Moscow

The Folk Theater from Belgrade has arrived in Moscow for its very first Russian tour and is getting ready to perform its version of Chekhov's "The Seagull" on the stage of the Maly Theater on November 22 and 23.

Stevo Zigan, the producer of the play, calls it "a refined lyrical love poem." "Since love is the main force that moves the process of creativity, 'The Seagull' is a comprehensive analysis of art itself," he says. The repertoire of the Folk Theater, which was founded in 1868, contains about 20 plays, including classics like Dostoyevsky's "Idiot" and Chekhov's "The Seagull," and a number of modern plays.

The Maly Theater will pay a return visit to Belgrade next January to acquaint local theatergoers with its own version of "The Seagull."
