Statistics Committee reports data on AIDS-infected people in Russia

According to preliminary data, in June 2002 3,537 HIV- and AIDS-infectedpeople were registered in Russia, of which 30 were children under 14 years(in May 2002 the figure was 3,569 and 34 people respectively), the RussianState Statistics Committee reported. In total in the first half of 200224,550 HIV- and AIDS-infected people were put on record in Russia, of which309 were children. St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region account for 17.7percent of all newly registered cases, while Moscow and the Moscow regionaccount for 10.6 percent, the Sverdlovsk region - for 10.3 percent, theSamara region - for 6.1 percent, the Irkutsk region - for 4.1 percent, theChelyabinsk region - for 4.1 percent, the Republic of Tatarstan - for 3.1percent and the Republic of Bashkirtostan - for 2.7 percent..
