Second seed Marat Safin makes through into second round of US Open

Russian second-seed tennis player Marat Safin stated at a press conference following the most difficult first round match against Germany's Nicolas Kiefer he won that he was indifferent to the result of the game.

When asked how he felt after the match against Kiefer, the tennis player said: "How do I feel? I am a corpse, real corpse. If only you knew how tired I am. I prayed for the game to be over as soon as possible." The Russian said at the post-game press conference that he had to keep himself under control as in the course of the game against Kiefer he already broke two of available 5 rackets for which he was reprimanded by the referee of the match.

The match between Russian Marat Safin and German Nicolas Kiefer lasted for about 4 and a half hours and ended with Safin's victory (6:3, 4:6, 6:3, 7:6 (7:4)).
