International Exhibition of Polygraphic workers opens in Moscow

The 17th International Exhibition of Printing Equipment and Technologies "PolygraphInter-2002" opened at the cultural exhibition centre Sokolniki in Moscow. Taking part in the traditional review of the latest achievements in the polygraphic industry this time are more than 300 firms and organizations from Germany, Finland, the USA and other countries. Companies from CIS member-states are widely represented there.

A representative of the Russian Association of Polygraphic Workers which is one of the founders of the review, said that what imparts the current exhibition a special meaning this time is the 190th anniversary of the invention of the first printing machine. The printing machine became the second revolution in printing after the invention by Gutenberg of printing by movable type. This was followed by the mass printing of books, newspapers and journals which speeded up progress in all fields of knowledge. An international congress will be held on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of that major invention in the history of civilization.

Seminars devoted to polygraphic techniques, materials used and manufacturing firms will be held every day while the exhibition is open (it will work until November 22). On the tight schedule of the forum time has been set aside for meetings between Russian polygraphic workers and their colleagues from the Lithuanian, Latvian and Ukrainian Associations of Polygraphic Workers.
