New FILA President opposes reduction of wrestling program at Olympic Games

New President of the International Federation of Amateur Wrestling /FILA/ Raphael Martinetti stands for the preservation of the wrestling programme at the Olympic Games. This was disclosed by Martinetti at a press conference after the FILA congress, which took place in Moscow on Thursday.

The FILA Directorate formed a committee, which would work with the International Olympic Committee /IOC/ representatives on the preservation of the wrestling programme at the Summer Olympic Games. The committee scheduled a meeting in October with the IOC President Jacques Rogge. In the course of the meeting the committee plans to revise the decisions made in the end of August by the Executive Committee in Lausanne concerning the programs of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

According to Martinetti, it is impossible to reduce the wrestling programme at the Summer Olympic Games, since it was the wrestling, which opened Olympic Games.

As the new FILA President, Martinetti has also revised his top priorities, concerning his work. First of all, he will reassign the duties of the FILA members, in order to increase the efficiency of the federation.

The new FILA President also plans to form a League of Amateur Wrestling and to boost contacts with sponsors.
