Lenin knows what luxurious toiletry is

On Wednesday, the municipal court in Ukraine’s city of Donetsk declared that the image of Vladimir Lenin was illegally used on billboards advertising equipment for bathrooms and lavatories. It was written on the billboards with the image of Lenin: “Real bourgeois toiletries!”

Attorney Sergey Salov says that the court partially allowed the claim registered by the Donetsk city organization of the Ukrainian Workers’ Union against the Stroitsentr trading house. The claim demanded to protect Lenin’s honor and compensate for the moral damage caused.

According to the attorney who represented the interests of the Workers’ Union in the court, “the court declared that it was Lenin himself on the billboard, not an actor resembling him, which violated articles 8 and 10 of the Ukrainian law on advertising. According to the court decision, the trading house will have to remove all such billboards from the streets.”

However, the court declined the claim on moral compensation for rate 1 million Ukrainian hryvnas (which is over 190,000 USD). The attorney admits that this claim has established a precedent in Ukraine.
