International Sports Court of Arbitration to consider appeal of Russian gymnasts in November

The International Sports Court of Arbitration in Lausanne on November 13 will consider the appeal of Russian gymnasts Irina Chashchina and Alina Kabayeva against the decision of the International Gymnastics Federation on their disqualification for the alleged use of doping. The lawyer of the Russian gymnasts, Tagir Samakayev, told RIA Novosti about it in an interview given to it on Wednesday.

At the end of June the disqualification of Alina Kabayeva and Irina Chashchina was suspended by the International Sports Court of Arbitration in view of the violations made by the International Gymnastics Federation in holding the procedure of doping control.

After that the Russian gymnasts successfully performed in the Grand Prix tournament which was held in Berlin in September and won first place at the club calisthenics tournament in Japan.

According to Tagir Samakayev, since the disqualification was suspended, Kabayeva and Chashchina have a full right to perform at international competitions. "So far they are world champions. And in Lausanne in the middle of November we shall uphold their titles," said Samakayev. It is not necessary for the gymnasts themselves to be present at the consideration of their appeal in Switzerland, added the lawyer.
