Russian-Chinese intellectual translator designed in China

Designers of the Huaqian enterprise attached to the Chinese Academy of Sciences have developed software for Russian-Chinese translation.

The programme includes two databases - 300,000 words from everyday vocabulary of Russian and 20,000 aviation and military terms. According to Hu Yui, Huaqian director, the programme is capable of automatic recording of the previous translation and new words and correcting mistakes, too. The programme is also able "to teach itself" - the longer you use it, the more "intelligent" it becomes.

Huaqian has been engaged in electronic translation since 1985. In 1995, its designers were awarded the Chinese State Prize for the system of English-Chinese electronic translation. Its technologies were used to create "The Russian-Chinese Intellectual Translator".

According to Chinese media, the new system of translation is already in great demand. It is estimated that 400,000 units can be sold in Heihe (a city on the border with Russia) alone.

Other Chinese computer firms are engaged in the design of software for translation from and into Chinese and Russian. Currently, a company from the city of Shenyang is developing an electronic Chinese-Russian and Russian-Chinese dictionary to be produced by the end of the year.
