First park of modern sculpture to be opened in the yard of St. Petersburg University

A park of modern sculpture will be officially opened in the yard of the philological department of St. Petersburg State University on Monday, October 21st.

The ceremony, timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the city, will bring together Ivan Uralov, the main city artist, Lyudmila Verbitskaya, the head of the university, Mikhail Piotrovsky, the Hermitage director, and other cultural and science workers.

The sculpture "Speculation About Little Prince" will be the first to be placed in the park. The sculpture was done by Arsen Avetisyan, a member of the Artists' union of Russia, Armenia and UNESCO. He is known in St. Petersburg for his sculpture "The Circus's Here" placed near the circus building in Fontanka Street.

Moreover, another wall sculpture named "the Spiral of Development" authored by medallist Georgy Postnikov will be placed in the park of modern sculpture.

The university yard is usually closed for visitors. But at present the university authorities are discussing the issue of making the first St. Petersburg Park of modern sculpture available to all.
