Orphaned girl from Haiti changes 5 US families in 5 years

Another child in the U.S. has fallen a victim of practice to hand over adopted children from one family to another with the help of specialized websites.

The latest story is about a girl, whom an American family adopted from an orphanage, 13-year-old Nita Dittenber of Haiti. The child was destined not to find a new family: during five years of life on the mainland, the girl had to change five different "parents." Whenever they tried to get rid of the girl, adults used closed social networks, where they placed ads saying that would be glad to give their adopted daughter to someone else. Child protection services were showing no attention to the little Haitian girl.

The story became public as a result of investigation conducted by NBC and Reuters reporters. Previously, journalists from these companies reported about the dangerous practice when child protection services would take absolutely no participation in the fate of orphans, and children could be freely passed from one family to another. The story caused quite a commotion in the media, but nothing changed in practice. Wisconsin became the only state that outlawed the practice of passing children from family to family.
