Famous Soviet basketball player, champion and Olympic medalist Sergei Belov passed away on October 3rd. He was 70.

Belov was the coach of the Russian national basketball team. Under his leadership, the team twice won silver medals in world championships - in 1994 and 1998. In 1997, Belov and his national team won bronze medals in the European Championships in Spain.

In 1980, the legendary athlete received the honor of lighting a fire at the Olympic Games in Moscow. In 1991, FIBA recognized him the best European basketball player of all time. The ceremony to bid farewell to the athlete will be held in Perm.
