Exhibition at Moscow History Museum presents Autographs of Famous Foreigners

Some 100 relic documents are presented at the exhibition "Autographs of Famous Foreigners", which opened at the State History Museum on Tuesday.

The exposition features a great variety of autographs and letters of famous foreigners, such as Admiral Nelson and great scientist Newton, General Director of the State History Museum Alexander Shkurko said, opening the exhibition. It points to Russia's great interest in Western Europe, its history, culture and science and serious attitude to the compilation of museum depositories, Shkurko said.

Wars, diplomatic negotiations, trade agreements, scientific and cultural relations are reflected in relic documents, kept at the State History Museum.

The exposition presents collections of Popes' bulls (the most ancient document is the bull of Pope Alexander III, dating back to 1164), charters of kings and letters of their mistresses, reports of famous commanders and formulas of scientists, manuscripts of world famous writers and poets, etc. These documents are autographs of the people symbolizing the whole epochs in the history of Europe. They are King Henry VIII of England, Louis XIV, the Sun King of France, great Corsican Napoleon and Peter I's rival, King Carl XII of Sweden.

The exhibition shows autographs of famous writers Cervantes, Corneille, Racine, Balzac, Hugo, etc.
