A group of demonstrators, protesting against massive layoffs in the public sector, attacked the Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis on Sunday, the press service of the official said.
The incident occurred when the mayor came out of the building, where he took part in a working meeting with the heads of other cities of Greece. The mayor was allegedly attacked by those who were concerned about new plans of the Greek government.
According to local media, the official did not receive serious injuries as a result of the attack. Meanwhile, Greek trade unions will hold a strike in the metropolitan area of Attica on Monday to protest against government plans to lay off 12,500 public employees during the year.
