Vyborg Castle to show cult articles of Medieval Europe

In early November the exhibition "Castles and Churches in Medieval Europe" will open at the Vyborg Castle state museum near St. Petersburg.

The exposition will present exhibits from the Hermitage collection. Its aim is to show what the appointments of the Vyborg castle looked liked several centuries ago, said Marta Kryzhanovskaya, an official of the Western European art department of the State Hermitage.

The sole medieval castle in Russia will show portable altars, crosses, bishop's rings, candlesticks and wall-papers with crucifix, which once were kept in European churches, monasteries and castles. In addition, the exposition will present household articles - mirror boxes, linen towels, carved spindles, ivory and wooden caskets. A trivet with the coat of arms of a French royal family will be one of the most interesting exhibits.
