All-Russian Knockdown Karate Tournament in Veliky Novgorod

Veliky Novgorod (northwestern region's administrative center, 500 km from Moscow) is seeing the All-Russian Youth Tournament in Knockdown Karate opening, November 2.

The competitions' organization committee has reported that about 100 karatekas aged 12-20 will take part in the one-day tournament, to be held in the Novgorod Palace of Sports.

Teams from St Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Ivanovo, Makhachkala, Perm, Tver and other cities of the country have confirmed their participation.

The tournament in Veliky Novgorod is being held in accordance with the international rules of knockdown karate. To win the fight, you should terminate it by a knockout or two knockdowns. Three rounds, three minutes each, are envisaged. Unless the winner is determined by that time, the combat will last till victory. Sportsmen are supposed to fight with no defense devices. Only the youngest of karatekas, aged under 14, will be allowed to wear protective shin pads.

The All-Russian Youth Tournament in Knockdown Karate is held in Veliky Novgorod for a third time. The competitions are in commemoration of the first head of the Federal Tax Police Service department for the Novgorod region, Major General Nikolai Petrov, who tragically died on June 14, 1999.
