Andrei Konchalovsky celebrates 75th birthday

Russia's famous theater and film director Andrei Konchalovsky celebrates his 75th birthday on August 20^th. Konchalovsky will celebrate the anniversary in Italy with friends and relatives.

In Italy, Konchalovsky is working on the production of Three Sisters, which is going to be premiered this fall. A grand festival devoted to Konchalovsky's work will take place at the end of October. Other events devoted to the director's 75^th anniversary will also be held in St. Petersburg, and a number of foreign cities.

The son of the famous writer and poet, who wrote the lyrics to the national anthems of the USSR and Russia Sergei Mikhalkov, a stepbrother of Nikita Mikhalkov, Andrei Sergeyevich Konchalovsky also managed to realize himself to the utmost. He is one of the few Russian filmmakers, whose work is known not only at home but also in Europe and in Hollywood.

Konchalovsky made such pictures as "The First Teacher", "Gentry", "The Story of Asya Klyachkina, Who Loved, But Never Got Married," "Uncle Vanya," "The House of Fools" and others. In the U.S., he directed "Beloved Mary" starring Nastassja Kinski, blockbuster "Tango and Cash" with Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. "Runaway Train" with Eric Roberts on the script by Akira Kurosawa became a part of world cinematic encyclopedias and made Konchalovsky a world-famous figure in the world of cinematography.

Andrei Konchalovsky won many prestigious film awards for his work, and was nominated for the Oscar three times.
