Yakutian students dance to bid farewell to school years

On may 25^th, hundreds of thousands of Russian schoolchildren bid farewell to their school years. This day is known in Russia as "The Last School Bell." The day is celebrated in Russia differently. In Yakutia, for example, schoolchildren performed their national dancing known as "osuohai."

More than 300 young people were dancing on Friendship Square in the city of Yakutsk, the capital of Yakutia. School graduates, students and members of youth public organizations gathered on the square for the dance of unity.

A student of the Folklore Department of Yakutia's College for Culture and Arts, Nyurguyaana Struchkova, won many sympathies with her enthusiastic performance of the dance. The young woman managed to create a very large circle of the dancers. The woman said that she had an experience of dancing at the national holiday known as Ysyah.

When dancing osuohai, people hold each other's hands in a circle, with their arms bent at the elbows. A circle in this dance symbolizes the cycle of life and eternity. They start the dance with the left leg and move in the circle in the direction of the sun, SakhaNews reports.

Today's dance was conducted as a rehearsal to the primary event to set the Guinness record of the largest osuohai in the world. The event will be registered on June 23, 2012 at the Summer Holiday Ysyah Tuimaady.
