Conference to promote event tourism takes place in Yakutia

The international conference devoted to the development of event tourism started working in the capital of Yakutia, Yakutsk, on December 9. Over 200 people took part in the event - spokespeople for federal and regional authorities, business communities, as well as experts from the countries of Europe, the Asian-Pacific region, and regions of the Russian Federation.

Yakutian President Egor Borisov welcomed the participants of the international conference on behalf of the republican administration. Mr. Borisov stressed out that the government of the country was paying special attention to the economic development of the Far East and the Arctic regions. The government implements the strategies of the social and economic development of the Far East and the Baikal region for the period before 2025, the president added.

Yakutia today is considered to be a region with the dynamically developing economy, high business activity, rich historical legacy and unique lifestyle of the local population.

The head of the republic said that the problems connected with the development of the event tourism in Yakutia, required special attention of the authorities. The republic is going to host "Russia, a Sports Power" international forum and V International Games "Children of Asia."

According to Borisov, one needs to take joint efforts to reach the success of the work in increasing the competitive ability of the domestic tourist market, attracting investments in the industry, promoting the national tourist product both on the home and foreign markets. The president of the republic set out his certainty about the fact that the conference would contribute to the solution of the issues connected with employment and increasing living standards of the population.

Deputy Minister for Culture of the Russian Federation Grigory Ivlev pointed out that event tourism in Yakutia was unique from the point of view of what the republic can offer. Yakutia, the official said, continued to attract both Russian and foreign visitors, let alone investors. The republic takes all measures to create the cultural environment that is capable of providing the efficient work of the power bodies in the economy of the region and in the country on the whole, Ivlev added.

Dmitry Mikheev, deputy chairman of the Federal Agency for Tourism, stated that Yakutia had become the first region that entered the federal target program of the domestic and incoming tourism. "It obviously emphasizes the significance of the region not only on the Russian level, but on the international level in the field of the development of tourism," Mikheev said.
