100 wives Danger dies

The Kenyan Ancentus Akuku Ogwela ("Danger") has died aged 92. His claim to fame? He married over 100 wives and lost count of the number of children he had. So large was his family that he built a church and a school to educate his offspring.

Danger? "I am called Danger because I have defeated many men. I was very handsome and so I had a lot of women".

Danger died this week in Kisumu hospital, due to complications from high blood pressure. He married his first wife in 1939 and the last in 1992. Married over 100 times, Danger practised polygamy, a traditional custom in western Kenya among his Luo tribe; he divorced at least 30 of them.

Asked how many children he had, he replied at least 160 but he had lost count, and his family was so numerous that he had a church and a school built to educate his children, and generations of grandchildren.
