Ringo Starr's Place of Birth To Be Demolished, Beatles Fans Furious

The house where Ringo Starr was born is to be demolished - despite furious protests from Beatles fans.

The humble two-up two-down will be reduced to dust in a slum clearance programme. Bulldozers are set to move in to flatten No 9, Madryn Street, Liverpool, in October, Mirror reports.

When the demolition is finished, the spokesman noted that high quality affordable homes will be developed and socially-rented housing will offer modern homes with gardens. Regeneration will hopefully secure a brighter future in the area, he added, which has suffered from abandonment and blight.

Beatles fans have shown their displeasure with the threat of bulldozing the property. They have accused the council of cultural vandalism that borders on criminal, saying that the proposals are equivalent to knocking down the home of William Shakespeare, Car Rentals informs.
