Shrek to Smile at the Audience at Tribeca Film Festival

The Tribeca Film Festival will open with the world premiere of "Shrek Forever After" on April 21.

The annual New York film festival announced the selection Monday.

"Shrek Forever After" is the fourth film in DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.'s "Shrek" series. It stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas.

The film is being advertised as the "final chapter" in the "Shrek" series. It's also the first "Shrek" released in 3-D.

The ninth annual Tribeca Film Festival runs through May 2. The rest of its slate will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in a response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the consequent loss of vitality in the TriBeCa neighborhood in Manhattan.

The mission of the film festival is "to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience." The Tribeca Film Festival was founded to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking center and to contribute to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan.
