Britain's Sensation Susan Boyle Rises to International Phenomenon

The Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle has landed her own US television special. Meanwhile, her debut album "I Dreamed A Dream" shapes up to become the year's fastest seller.

Boyle will be the star of a one hour documentary produced by Simon Cowell.

I Dreamed A Dream: The Susan Boyle Story will air on the TV Guide Channel in the US on December 13, and will trace her extraordinary journey from obscurity to global fame. It will feature performances from Boyle alongside interviews with friends and celebrity supporters.

The 48-year-old is expected to shift 400,000 copies of her album by the end of the week, becoming the biggest and fastest-selling release of 2009. It sold 130,000 on its first day alone, Telegraph.co.uk reports.

It was also reported, she doesn’t have the greatest voice in the world. Her rendition of “Wild Horses” is rather dirge-like. But her appearance on BGT was a historic moment. There have been tensions along the way. Maybe her moment of courage was an anomaly. Would she never emerge from the sanitarium after her breakdown? Would she go completely Hollywood? Would the Simon Cowelled Susan emerge for her world tour with poufed up lips and lipo-ed hips?

Apparently not. Susan’s appearance in Rockefeller Center was part of the roll-out for her debut CD — just in time for Christmas. It was clear once again that Simon Cowell is a very savvy businessman. The “old Susan” was still there. She did a saucy little dance with her red muffler as if it was a stripper’s boa, and then waggled her caterpillar eyebrows and then she sang that song, the one about the torture of living with blasted dreams, Telegraph.co.uk reports.

News agencies also report, the show, which will also be broadcast on TV Guide Network in the US, will include interviews with her friends and celebrity fans, including Simon Cowell, whose company SyCo TV is behind the special.

TV Guide’s president Ryan O’Hara commented: "Susan Boyle is one of those rare personalities who has captivated millions of fans around the world with her undeniable vocal talent and incredible life story.

"For the first time ever, fans will have an opportunity to see Susan Boyle shine on stage in her own spotlight, witness amazing musical performances in a concert setting, as well as gain insight into the challenges she overcame as she rose to an international phenomenon," Digital Spy reports.
