In 'This Is It' Michael Jackson Appears Fully Robust and Able Star

After Tuesday's premieres in 17 cities worldwide, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" began screening for the public after midnight. The documentary about the King of Pop's prep work for his planned concert series has broken international ticket-sales records and online ticket outlets have reported thousand of sellouts. Insiders have predicted the film could pull in $250 million in its first five days.

That's quite a bit of hype. Now people are actually getting to see the movie. What have they been saying? What sort of portrait of MJ does the film paint? As the film opens for its two-week theatrical run, MTV News has gathered the critics' reviews.

What the film does first and foremost is give fans an idea of what the London concerts would have been like. And as Andrew Barker writes in Variety, the doc makes clear that the shows "would have almost certainly signaled one of the most dramatic comebacks in pop music history. The rehearsal footage on display in 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' is evidence enough to draw that conclusion, providing a solid basis to imagine the final product while also giving a heretofore unseen glimpse of the star's creative process," MTV.com reports.

In the meantime, it's impossible to have just one reaction to the new Michael Jackson documentary, "This Is It." Every scene in the film - which chronicles the star's rehearsals for his proposed comeback - brings on a bottleneck of emotions, from sadness to exhilaration, promise to loss.

How could it not, considering the film recreates the preparation for something that never happened, starring someone who's no longer here?

The movie shows an entirely able star, eager to give his all to show the world that, at 50, he could still do it, and do it bracingly well.

Culled from a reportedly 100-plus hours of footage filmed between March and June of this year, the movie shows Jackson toiling diligently on his footwork, going over and over tricky routines meant to show him off to his best advantage. In the footage Jackson may look skinny, but he also appears fully robust and focused, Entertainment Weekly reports.

It was also reported, with today marking the release of the highly anticipated Michael Jackson movie “This Is It,” we here at Hollywood Crush wanted to find a way to help you honor the music legend. Halloween is just three days away, so we thought we would extend our Dress Like A Movie Star Week to pay tribute to (respectfully, of course) the always-groundbreaking MJ. While you could always do a group costume inspired by the spooky fun undead from the classic “Thriller” video, we also wanted to help you capture some of Jackson’s other iconic looks.

Here's what you need to get started: first and foremost, that jacket! Ladies, we loved Guess’ Kylie Sequin jacket and even though it’s $108, the style is so hot this season, you’ll wear it long past Halloween. You can rock the jacket with a pair of basic leggings, like these super cozy (and again, wearable all season) leggings from Gap for $20. Pair that with a $10 Old Navy white v-neck tee and this super-cute fedora hat from Kohl’s for $11, MTV.com reports.
