Schwarzenegger museum to close

A tiny Arnold Schwarzenegger museum featuring some of the training equipment once used by the body builder-turned-actor-turned-California governor is about to close.

The museum, which also displays photos and paintings, is tucked into a corner of a fitness centre in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium in Graz, a southern Austrian city near Schwarzenegger's home village, The Age says.

The fitness centre and the museum will close due to financial problems, an administrator at the centre, who did not want to be named, said.

A letter sent to Schwarzenegger asking for financial help had gone unanswered, she said.

Susanne Hoeller, an official at Graz tourism office, confirmed the museum, inaugurated when Schwarzenegger turned 50 in 1997, was about to close.

Though the privately run museum never attracted large crowds, it was a "pity" for the city that its only Schwarzenegger sight was about to vanish, she said.

For now, the future of the collection is unclear. It will be stored and might one day be put on display again, Hoeller said.
