Almost half of all young women would ditch the drink to reduce their chances of suffering from &to=http://english.pravda.ru/science/19/94/377/12309_milk.html' target=_blank>breast cancer, a survey has revealed.

More than 2,000 women aged 15 and over, were questioned and 12 per cent of women of all ages would stop drinking completely, while 27 per cent would limit their &to=http://english.pravda.ru/main/18/89/356/14328_beer.html' target=_blank>drinking to one unit a day and 14 per cent would try to reduce their alcohol intake in a bid to lower their chances of getting breast cancer later in life, informs ITV.com

According to BBC, alcohol consumption is known to present a small but significant increase in breast cancer risk. Drinking more than the recommended daily alcohol limit is an increasing trend in women of all ages. Office of National Statistics figures show that the trend is most marked in young women aged 16-25.

Baroness Delyth Morgan, chief executive of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: "We don't yet know all the causes of breast cancer but we do know that alcohol, HRT, the contraceptive pill, early periods, late menopause and not having children can all increase risk.

"Unfortunately, most of the established breast cancer risk factors are things which are outside of our control.

"I think this shows that the messages are getting through to younger women, but we still have a long way to go in terms of educating older women about breast cancer and how to be breast aware."
