Rush hour commute is hazardous: study reveals

The longer you spend sitting in traffic, the higher your risk of a heart attack, says a new study. This does not just mean sitting in a traffic jam - it includes cycling in traffic or being a bus passenger, within an hour of your being out there among the cars and other vehicles.

This study, carried out by the GSF-National Research Centre for Environment and Health in Neuherberg, Germany, says we can officially add traffic to our long list of heart attack triggers, such as stress, bad diet, lack of exercise, over-strenuous exercise, anger, anxiety…etc, informs Medical News Today.

According to Heart Center Online, being involved in traffic nearly tripled the risk of heart attack in the hour that followed, the researchers note. Moreover, as time spent in cars, on motorcycles or bicycles, or on public transportation increased, so did the risk of heart attack.
